It's Time!
I guess it’s time I update this blog I claim to keep! Lots has happened since (and even a thing or two before) my last post. You may want to grab a Snickers…this may take a while!
My little sister, Kim (or Heather as some of you may know her), had her 2nd child in February. Bailey Audrina Black came into the world around 6:20 am on 2/22. She was 7 lbs and x” long (please forgive me Kim, I can’t remember exactly). Tré is totally in love with her. He kisses and hugs her all the time. And he loves to make her laugh every chance he gets. She is now almost 5 months old and weighs somewhere between 16 and 17 lbs (pretty big for the small newborn that she was, I think anyway)! The Black family is complete!
We are moved and unpacked (seriously late – this was actually done in February). It’s not the greatest thing ever, but we are working it out! We are with my mom for now and hoping to start looking for something to buy in the next 6 months or so. And the best part...we are closer to all our friends and family. Most Saturday nights we are hanging out with either my little sister or Jeremy’s brother and we couldn’t be happier about it…that’s exactly why we wanted to move back. YAY!!!!
And now for Kennedy’s story. My doctors were concerned about her size (at 38 weeks the US tech said she weighed 9 lbs and some change) so they wanted to induce. I was very upset about this as I had heard many horror stories of the whole induction process. Jeremy’s cousin broke it down to me like this…it’s like trying to pop a pimple that isn’t ready. Sounds fantastic, right? NOT NOT NOT!!! And of course I had the option to wait, but my doctor painted such a pretty picture, I decided to go with his advice and let them induce. So here’s the short version of how it worked/went…I went into the hospital on Monday. I was given cervadil Monday night, pitocin all day Tuesday (which meant contractions all day Tuesday), another cervadil Tuesday night, and more pitocin Wednesday. Finally around 9ish Wednesday morning, I was progressing and in active labor. I called for the epidural (yes I’m a wimp that cannot do natural child birth) and didn’t actually get it until after 12 pm. By 2:30 I was back in some serious pain so I called for the “re-up” on the epidural (which I didn’t get for Raegan’s birth). Getting it was definitely the right choice! By 3 pm I was ready to push and at 3:30 pm Kennedy Diane Harris made her debut. She was a whopping 8 lbs 10 ozs and 20” long. My first thought: that damn US tech was wrong…I could have waited to go into labor on my own. But oh well...end result…my beautiful baby girl was finally her.
Unfortunately, like with Raegan’s birth, I didn’t really get to bask in the glory of what had just happened. Again, my placenta didn’t want to come out. Long story short, I lost too much blood while this bitch of a doctor sat and waited for it to deliver (we even told her about the issues last time). It never delivered and I was getting symptomatic (pale, light headed, delirious – you know all the “I don’t have enough blood in me” symptoms) so I had to be rushed to the OR for a DNC. On the plus side of this situation…I now know that I have a bi-cornuate uterus. It’s a heart-shaped uterus basically. I’ll save you all the details, risks and all that mess, but it explains everything from the stuck placentas to the miscarriage last year. And because of the surgery and blood loss I got an extra day in the hospital. I was there from Monday to Friday (that sucked) and I had a minor break-down on Thursday night. It involved me crying something serious and Jeremy telling me everything would be OK. Needless to say, I would never do an induced labor again…I’d rather chance a 10 pounder that would end in a c-section anyway! And that is a very big IF we were to have more!
I guess that’s enough for now. Here are some pictures. And I will follow up with a blog just about Raegan and Kennedy in a couple of days (I promise)!!!
